Staff Spotlight

Some of the best students and teachers in Louisiana are right here in Gueydan, and we think they deserve some recognition, so this is our chance to get to know them a little better. This is our Jesse Owens Staff Spotlight on Mrs. Julia David.

What's your name?

Julia David

What do your students call you?

Mrs. Julia

How long have you been teaching? How long have you been at Jesse Owens?

I have been teaching 25 years. I have been at Jesse Owens since 2002. I did teach a one year position 4 years earlier at JOES.

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

My favorite subject in school was Math.

What do you love most about being here at JOES?

I love the staff support from my co-workers. We all have issues that we can lean on to support one another with. I love the students and watching them grow throughout the years. I also get to teach with my niece (Godchild), and that has been extraordinarily special to me.

Who or what inspired you to be a teacher?

A close friend encouraged me to go back to school to get certified to become a teacher. I did and was able to teach with her for many years,

Could you tell us a little about your family?

My family is my whole life. I am married Johnny, who is a man that has worked very hard to support our family. We have three outstanding daughters (Valerie, Katie, and, Samantha), whom we are both proud of. I have three bonus sons- Bobby, Darren and Andrew. They are amazing guys who take care of our girls and grands. We have six of the best grandchildren Haden, Elijah, Holden, Eliana, Samuel and Emmalin (who light up our world with happiness). I am fortunate to still have my mother in my life, she is 90 years old and lives independently. She and my Dad gave me 12 siblings. Six brothers and six sisters, that we all keep in close contact. Nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that I have lost count of the number, but know the names. So God has looked down on our family and has greatly blessed me.

What are a few things you couldn't live without?

I cannot live without my religion and my rosary. That is what has gotten me this far in life.

What's your favorite quote?

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
