It's time for the Jesse Owens Read-A-Thon!
Our school Read-A-Thon begins today, Monday, February 23, 2026, and is sure to be a fun and exciting event.
We understand that your time is valuable. We also know that providing the best education for your child is important. That's why we are encouraging everyone to activate their student's Read-A-Thon account as soon as possible. The instructions are straightforward, making it quick and hassle-free, and it should take less than 5 minutes of your time.
This account will serve as a hub for recording and monitoring your child's progress as a Reader in the event, and for you to share their Read-A-Thon message with friends and family. Use the link below to activate your student's Reader account:

Thank you so much for your participation and support. Together, we can make this Read-A-Thon an amazing experience for our young readers! Thank you from everyone at JOES!

Today JOES 5th grade did a mixing substances investigation. 2 teaspoons of calcium chloride and 1 teaspoon of baking soda were put into a plastic bag then 10 ml of phenol red was added. Students shook the bag to mix the ingredients and the substance changed to texture, turned yellow, and became warm, giving off gases that inflated the bag.

Earlier today, Jesse Owens hosted their 2025-2026 National Junior Beta Induction Ceremony. Parents, teachers, and students were invited to see our new 4th and 5th grade Betas pledge to maintain their excellence in the classroom as well as in the community. Students were joined by Senior Beta officers from GHS to aid in the ceremony, and newly-elected officers were also sworn in to their posts. Congratulations to these amazing students on their accomplishment!
